Good news is always welcomed. Based on the notice from the (S)ocial (S)ecurity (A)dministration of a Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA - as acronymist's* have labelled the phenomenon) beginning January 2026, I can take a shot at guessing that the SSA did not anticipate negative inflation for at least the first calendar quarter of the 2026 calendar year. I do get the impression it was close. Although guessing has risks associated with it, the net increase of $28.00 per month provides some assurance that guessing doesn't present a significant problem if it is incorrect.

Can there be identified anything that is useless before one's encounter with such note (source)?

What I am quite but not completely sure of is that I would support not preventing anyone from not doing what they do not want to do. However, in some situations I would not recommend such behavior.
