It is the essence of the flow of history expressed in the saying, history repeats itself. Like an addiction, those participating on the periphery (margin for those aficionados of economics and/or calculus) reach figurative escape velocity with the pressure of absurdities that are increasingly breaking the mental bonds of irrational beliefs and physical behavior. Metaphorically that ultimate roller coaster ride for the entirety of mankind.
