Asylums worked until the same things that happened to this society currently, that has turned this society into what it is today, had happened to the asylums in the past. That is, the insane slowly but relentlessly became those operating the asylums. The cure perhaps unrealized by the system of justice could or would not foresee that the degradation of individual freedom created in the asylum system could not be corrected by the elimination of the asylum system. The intrinsic devolution of the asylum environment resulted from the transformation of people with the required moral and ethical beliefs who were there to help cure the ill, turned into people who were there to help cure themselves of their own personal demons with/by the physical and or mental destruction of the patients.

It struck me that the result from the effort to rid the past of the history of slavery now may come to the perfect ending with the elimination of a past problem that doesn't exist now. That itself deserves the "Go figure" award.
