It is one level of insanity to believe that oneself can transition their physical nature by thinking so. It is another level (mentally deeper and complex) of deceptively evil insanity to tell a "trans" believer that they are believed and that they can do it. The provider of such assurance is a facilitator of insanity. They are an individual (facilitator) who is an evil step beyond a drug addicts' supplier. What would explain this behavior? Perhaps a quote can metaphorically convey a meaning. "One ring to rule them all". Power is the drug. Any dosage perceived is a "high". Addiction to power in the array of all possible addictive drugs or dreams draws a believer to it (the power).
Example: $36 trillion dollars in debt and the concern of government is non-existent. Power (a god) to solve the miseries of the people. It is addicting.

Maybe the most self-beneficial reconciling penance administered by/for/to humans is performed by politicians who have a blinding trust in the concept employed as preventative responsibility contained within the theory of plausible deniability. That, on judgement day penance may be translated to the language of individual responsibility and will fail the Judge's inquiry and be passed on as the administration of justice.
