For low information voters (LIV) I offer the following simple explanation of how the unemployment rate is measured. It may be understandable. Today the unemployment rate is 7.6%. Tomorrow the unemployment rate will be 0% if everybody stops looking for work. They do not need to find a job. All that they have to do is stop looking for a job. If they are not looking for work, they are not unemployed. Of course, they may begin to wonder what they are doing if they are not unemployed and not employed! There will be a few who can’t figure out the situation described. Or if one happens to be a progressive, liberal democrat the conundrum created probably makes sense. I hope this description helps.
