Since the language of acronym has become such a fad, I recognize that my language and grammar skills seem, at least to me, to have deteriorated. What is even more effected is that if I do the research, I may be able to swear that the net result is the time that is saved not having to write an entire word(s) is offset or exceeded by the time it takes to figure out what is the word represented by a letter(s) and then to discover it is the wrong word. Is there developing the line of thought in the field of language the topic of mis-acronym-ing (not a known word). You will figure it out because it is not an acronym.
