If invited to imagine a metaphor for many people and institutions during this era, perhaps I might say, that a lot of people and institutions that willingly copycat or follow those people are acting like an addicted gambler who will swear that they are only taking chances not gambling. Or a much shorter metaphor dug-up from antiquities; I see said the blind man. (man = person for those to mentally shortsighted to figure it out)

Maybe the most self-beneficial reconciling penance administered by/for/to humans is performed by politicians who have a blinding trust in the concept employed as preventative responsibility contained within the theory of plausible deniability.
