At the moment the Declaration of Independence was signed it could be assumed everyone who signed it was considered a “criminal”. Thus, perhaps it can be said that the Sons of the Crown became the Fathers of a Nation.
Or as paraphrased from another wise person’s musings, one person’s criminal tyrant is another person’s freedom loving fighter.
