A simple response to someone who claims that some firearms are unnecessary, or some magazines hold too many bullets is to say, you personally prove what you are saying.
In the situation of high-capacity magazines, tell the person to actually demonstrate how they can stop an attacker who has a weapon and is intent on harming them with the quantity of bullets they have specified.
I suspect that except in the case of experienced shooters, that the majority of gun control advocates will not volunteer to demonstrate their self-defense firearms skills.
