This is a metaphor for the current republican and democrat political options:
I am driving on a dangerous road. Through the windshield I see a treacherous storm ahead. I know I will be hurt because of the storm. Searching for refuge, I look in the rearview mirror and what do I see? I see the mirror image of the storm which is in front of me. It is a similar storm approaching me from behind. There is no refuge, however driving forward is safer than driving backwards. Republicans are the backward direction. If there is no relief forward and no relief backward, the next decision is to go sideways.
