An easy self-test of whether you are addicted to a drug.
Using marijuana as an example answer these questions in order.
First, are you addicted to marijuana?
Second, does marijuana effect your judgement?
Third, can you quit using marijuana?
Fourth, will you quit using marijuana?
If you get to the fourth question and the answer is no, it is up to you to decide if you are addicted.
My conclusion would be that you are addicted. It is a logical conclusion particularly if you answered no to both the first and last questions.
The response to the second question complicates the issue immensely if you answered no to that question.
The issue is complicated exponentially if you answered the third question yes and all other answers remain the same.

To turn my leering leaching eye to the realm of "Notes", for example "Community Notes" and all other sources of information sometimes also called data either for or not for "checking" or any other purpose such as research. Can there be identified anything that is useless before one's encounter with such note (source)?
Requisite condition: How would one know for themself?
Do I hear it now? What you say?
Self-assigned complication rating: <1>). Or maybe zero.
Point: Everything old is always new to some or many.

What I am quite but not completely sure of is that I would support not preventing anyone from not doing what they do not want to do. However, in some situations I would not recommend such behavior.
