A reason the accusation of having double standards does not affect some politicians is because those politicians have zero standards.
Mathematically the zero standards subtracted from the single standards of critics leaves just the single and only standards of the critics and no standards for those that are criticized.

Maybe the most self-beneficial reconciling penance administered by/for/to humans is performed by politicians who have a blinding trust in the concept employed as preventative responsibility contained within the theory of plausible deniability. That, on judgement day penance may be translated to the language of individual responsibility and will fail the Judge's inquiry and be passed on as the administration of justice.
