Congratulations: John McCain. You have been an impressive successful member of the U.S. Congress for more than 30 years. You have been a maverick and a master of compromise. All we have to do is to review the condition of the country today compared to 30 years ago. Massive unemployment, proliferation of food stamp recipients, excessive spending, deteriorating education system, increasing illiteracy, eroding of the family and its values, the need for guaranteed contraceptives, the need for unfettered access to abortion, eliminating God and Christianity from society just to name a few of the congressional, judicial, administrative and societal successes. And why do we enjoy these exceptional improvements? Because exceptional fellow citizens who hold themselves out as the solution to societal problems are the same persons completely unwilling to admit they are total failures. Just look at the results. Of course, you could palm off an excuse by blaming the opposition. The entire group of government employees has turned into a trade association of irresponsible financial managers. Imagine if you set the same regulations for personal financial affairs on yourself as you impose on the citizens from whom you take the money.
Of course, I remember the importance of reaching across the aisle. I guess it will be consoling to you, as you drag us all over the cliff, that we were willing to accept compromised partnership responsibility in the national suicide, as we crawl, instead of rush to our financial and moral destination. At least you believe you have honor. I just can’t figure out honor in what. Your position of compromise works only if you accept the concept of moral compromise.
When you rationalize a decision as a necessary evil you accept evil as a destination. Don’t be surprised when you arrive.
Your comments are the very reason why the questions have to be asked. Your comments are indicative of you unfortunately becoming like a bureaucratic hack after being in the political muck and mire of the amorphous blob called government. Your comment indicates your outrage is because your “colleagues” didn’t suggest President Bush was going to kill anybody with a drone.” So, as I understand you; if your “colleagues” had criticized Bush, the filibuster tactic would be as least acceptable to you but since they hadn’t complained about Pres. Bush during his administration the filibuster is unacceptable to you. I see your wisdom!!! The wisdom ranks up there with na, na, na, na, na, naaaa, which I recall using occasionally as a child. Of course, that is a relevant perspective of this issue you have presented. Perhaps these following events will provide some insight why, I think, sometimes things need to be clarified: commercial airliners flown into buildings, or 20 children killed in Newtown, Ct. The prohibition of the actions that lead to those events does not require clarification for me but since those events occurred apparently some people need to be educated. Perhaps you can provide that education more effectively than you have run a government. Based on the current state of the nation I, even with my poor analytical skills, even with my bad decision-making skills, would say you are doing an unconscionable, despicable job. The results are a FAILURE. Otherwise, things are great.
By the way, do you remember the Clint Eastwood quote from Magnum Force (1973) “A man’s got to know his limitations.” An honest man will know when he is not accomplishing what is necessary to fulfill his commitment.
Finally, what is sincerely sad about this situation is that you think you are achieving something in your legislative endeavors. However, I submit my demagogic critique. The U.S. is like a body with cancer, the patient is searching for a cure and the doctor is giving the patient morphine. The worse it gets the more morphine is provided. The patient has a great ride, but the ending is inevitable.
How can I be sure: If I ask you to solve my problem in the free market, and you can’t, are you deluded enough to think you will be able to do it from a different employer? YOU WILL NEVER LEGISLATE THE SOLUTION TO SOCIAL PROBLEMS. You might as well write a book of fantasy. Many of our ancestors have written such books and tried to solve such problems. If you think you can, start the proof by finding one law that has permanently solved a social ill.
We will become a better nation when we measure success on what we as individuals achieve and if we help other achieve success. Not allowing success to be measured by what we prevent ourselves and prevent others from achieving will also make us better nation.
Since your colleague Mr. Graham has also demonstrated disdain for the Rand Paul filibuster, I suggest instead of admonishing Mr. Paul perhaps he should substitute the following two names, Bradley Manning or John Walker Lindh or possibly colleagues of those two misguided U.S. citizens, as being targets of assassination by the U.S. government agencies or the military. Mr. McCain’s assertion that the U.S. government cannot randomly target U.S. citizens is semantics and absurd. First, the objection posed by Mr. Rand did not directly address random killing. His filibuster was primarily aimed at selective targeted, not random, killing of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. Second, his comment that the U.S. government will never kill U.S. citizens is unfortunately wrong. There have been many people employed by the U.S. government agencies and military who may have no compunctions about killing fellow citizens legally or illegally. It has happened in many different situations for many different reasons. Some of those events have been epochal. Just as epochal as killing an American citizen on American soil with a Hellfire missile fired from a drone would be if it occurs. But I am sure there is no one in this country who would entertain that thought, especially if they get a prize for peace. Sort of like Yasser Arafat use to behave, very peaceful person. Unfortunately, many people died proving how peaceful that type of person is.

History is dependable. A good example of its repetitious nature is the shootout at the OK Corral being a template for the shout out at the Home Depot corral (parking lot/garage).
