Politicians are seeking to achieve their political goals if the solution to a problem is the intervention of government. The "government" is comprised of citizens who are no more or less capable or qualified to solve the problem in the free market as they will qualified to solve the same problems in the government. The only benefit is that the government gives them the protection from prosecution for failure and misbehavior.

It struck me that the result from the effort to rid the past of the history of slavery now may come to the perfect ending with the elimination of a past problem that doesn't exist now. That itself deserves the "Go figure" award.
