If a person believes that success is the result of others, i.e.: the government helping you achieve that success, then the corollary is that others, i.e.: the government helps you fail. I am not aware of any social issue the government has undertaken that has reached the goal set and therefore can be called a success.
Contrary to the premise assumed by many in government, government cannot solve problems because those same government employees are there because they are searching for a solution to a problem.
If government was the solution to problems, people would form governments, not businesses to solve social ills.
Ask an investor if he would invest in government.
Government becomes tyranny when government employees and politicians assume they are more than referees.

Maybe the most self-beneficial reconciling penance administered by/for/to humans is performed by politicians who have a blinding trust in the concept employed as preventative responsibility contained within the theory of plausible deniability. That, on judgement day penance may be translated to the language of individual responsibility and will fail the Judge's inquiry and be passed on as the administration of justice.
