One important aspect of the U.S. justice system is the principle “innocent until proven guilty”. Relating to that principle is the frequently used question “if you have nothing to hide?”. The question is posed when alleging that if an illegal act has not been committed, then the person being asked should concede to those making the request to a search of person and/or property.
A rational and logical response in keeping with the spirit of the law is; if you have nothing to find, then there is nothing to hide, so why are you asking?

It struck me that the result from the effort to rid the past of the history of slavery now may come to the perfect ending with the elimination of a past problem that doesn't exist now. That itself deserves the "Go figure" award.

Many threads of wisdom flow freely, constantly or is it just reality like that expressed in lyrics in the Simon & Garfunkel song, "The Boxer" wherein stated: "All lies in jest when a man hears what he wants to hear and forgets all the rest". So, history is guided to the next round of mental boxing. With others sometimes?
